We are VERY excited to offer flours from Stone and Sparrow :) The Turkey Red Wheat is what we use in our Honey Whole Wheat, as well as part of the blend in many of our multi grain items. This flour is nutty and higher protein, making it great as a bread flour or as a flavorful blend in anything from breads to pastries.
Turkey Red wheat is a historic variety of hard red winter wheat first brought to the U.S. in the 1870s by Mennonite farmers. This wheat thrived on the Great Plains, especially in Kansas, and quickly became the foundation of the region’s breadbasket. Unlike modern dwarf varieties, it grows tall—contributing organic matter back into the soil, which is crucial for maintaining healthy, living soils. This makes it a natural fit for regenerative and organic farming practices, which prioritize soil health, biodiversity, and sustainability.
